Oakland-based conceptual artist Seyed Alavi fills the Solari Gallery with his "Remeberance". The concept for rememberance is based on the gallery space and the artist's search for answers to timeless and complex questions such as the origin of life and the nature of existence.
Alavi finds poetry and a poetic approach to be an ideal tool for expressing and communicating complex thoughts. For this installation he chose a poem by Attar, a 13th-century mystic of the Sufi Tradition.
Alavi uses a 12' by 30' reflecting pool, mirrored tiles, poem text, and water drops in this installation.
