Linda Pope, Director
Editor's Note: In June 1996, The Pope Gallery closed. It is sorely missed by the art loving people of Santa Cruz.So why is the page still here? Because I like it and it was fun to do while it lasted!
Referred to as "the only New York gallery in Santa Cruz," by another admiring gallery owner, this brand new venue has caused great excitement since it opened. The largest and newest gallery between San Francisco and Santa Barbara, its style and scope have infused confidence and ambition into the Santa Cruz community." Gallery owner / director, Linda Pope, is also director of the Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery at the University of California in Santa Cruz. Pope believes that art should be accessible for everyone. "We have an active and genuine art community," says Pope. "I want to encourage and promote Santa Cruz artists and help connect them with the larger art world." Afterall, says Pope, "art helps to make the world a better place. It encourages us to see the world in yet another way, sometimes offering hope and new visions, healing and insight into ourselves and others. Art is, quite simply, food for the soul. I would like to see the world come together under the umbrella of art."
