Things Seen and Done

A gorilla and his bananna. A bananna and his gorilla. Two silly things and Center Camp. Center Camp is the only place you can exchange bits of paper for things. Coffee and ice, specifically. I also saw my friends Sasha and Kiki play some music here, but the pictures came out badly.
One of the decorated art cars, the only vehicles that are supposed to drive around. The cars are only supposed to drive five miles per hour, but some inconsiderate people did not observe this rule. I saw one car travelling at about 30, and the cloud of dust it produced obscured fully half of Black Rock City.
At the entrance.
Liz and I inside the Maze. The Maze is a human-sized one with all sorts of secret rooms, the end being a large platform on a second level. The only exit is a fireman-style pole, which was Liz's first time sliding down a pole. Good job Liz!
The nomad lamplighters. These folks lit streetlamps at dusk, a big job and an invaluable service. Thanks, guys!
A Shel Silverstein camp near Sasha's camp. Not all camps are as complex as ours, but can still be effective.
A bicycle-powered merry-go-round with aquatic creatures as horses. It was broken, unfortunately, but still neat.
The Temple of Tears, an amazing structure built from woodcuts similar to those dinosaur kits you had as a kid. A place to remember those who have passed away, and the visit was a very emotional experience for Liz and I.
The blasted green thing. We saw a light on the horizon one night, and decided to walk to it. The playa is not good for depth perception, especially at night, and we walked for more than a mile to get to it, never sure if we were far away or right on top of it.
One of my favorite art cars, the travelling funk band. It's just a truck with a band playing Family Stone covers and such things. Very cool.
