"E" stands for enhanced: this means that with a strong signal you do not need a PL. , if you are weak into the repeater and use PL. it will hold the squelch open so you can get through.

CERT***  These repeaters are part of the "Communication Emergency Response Team".  Repeaters are open, however CERT activity has priorty.  CERT coverage area is primarily central and northern California, and work is ongoing to link all 14 sites together.  All CERT rptrs operate on 51.82-, with different site access tones.

******************************************************************************************

The 'CARS' network operates in an open fashion,  but does not welcome remote bases from other bands.  This is due mainly to annoying touch-tones and other extraneous tones or carriers emitted from the majority of controllers in use as remotes.  CARS was exclusively designed and built to serve the six meter community, and all of its linking is done 'in-band', quite unlike most 'linked' repeater systems found today.
As a result, users must follow a couple of simple rules:

1>Do not key up until the repeater you are on has COMPLETELY DROPPED OUT. This common bad habit is referred to as 'Quick-Keying'.  Courtesy tones
are insignificant.  All of the repeaters have timers tied directly to their keying line,  hence you MUST let hangtimes drop completely in order to reset. This also allows a period for others to break-in if necessary.

2>When you do key your mic, wait before you begin speaking.  This is due to the numerous p/l decoders throughout the network that 'slow' the reaction time of the system.  A safe rule would be... key your mic and  WAIT 2 SECONDS BEFORE YOU BEGIN TALKING. Otherwise, the first few syllables you utter will be heard by no one!   This bad habit on the part of many Hams is known as 'Racing the Mic'.

AGAIN, THANKS TO GEORGE, WILL, PAUL, BRUNO, WAYNE, MIKE, JOHN, AND ALL THE OTHERS WHO HELPED CONTRIBUTE  INFO FOR THIS LIST.........Dan

NOTE:  FOR VIEWING THE KN6LA WEBPAGE 6M LISTING, ACCESS THE FOLLOWING:

AS REPEATERS ARE FOUND NOT TO BE RESPONDING TO THEIR SIX METER INPUTS, BUT RATHER SOME OTHER BAND, THEY WILL BE STRICKEN FROM THIS LIST.  THEY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AS REPEATERS, BUT RATHER AS 'DUMPOUTS'.  TWO SUCH 'DUMPOUTS' HAVE BEEN FOUND IN LOS ANGELES....AND MORE ARE SUSPECT......BKL
