Performance upgrades...
- Dealer installed, up graded to larger tire size, 31x10.5R15 (better off road, looks better, but adds a 8% speedo error, grater space between gears, bumps gearing up slightly; So, ideally one may want to up grade to 4.56 gear ratio, do to slight powered loss off the line. C below.)
- Costom made big 4 row, radiator, totally cool (previous owner),
- K& N air filter - Vary good, HP gains...
- Accel supper stock, 50kv, coil, - ???
- NGK, wires - ???
- Autolite, Platinum plugs, gapped per factory spec's (.031) and over (.034 - maybe better)- Better than Nipo's or NGK's...
- Hi flow Cat (Turns out to be stock, and a real cheep one, at that (Catco. Better designs available, today),
- Catback, 2.25 in (should have gone to a 3 in) exsost pipes - HP gains,
- Flowmaster, Deltaflow 2 chamber - HP gains,
- Engine re-build:
- Bored 30 over (not, cuz I wanted to, though),
- Molly rings,
- Probably should have:
- Gone to the, up graded - 2.7 stoker (I think different crank and pistons)?
- Polished and ported the intake and runner, and head,
- LC ENG. (HP gains?):
- 22ret turbo cam,
- Springs& hw,
- Rocker arms, and shaft,
- Hi OP oil pump.
- New upgraded TC-20, turbo, more fins, slightly hier boost (9 PSI, stock is 6 PSI), faster& sooner spool-up (less lag, I don't notice any lag, 900-1200 rpm boost start, stock was 2500. Turbo Power. Good rebuilder!) - HP gains,
- Centerforce One, clutch kit - I love this clutch, so smooth, (a little grabby when at (hi) revs),
Upgrades:
- 100 Amp alternator (Downey offroad).
- Roadmaster, Active Suspension - I really like it.
- Most of the upgrades happened when the engine was rebuilt. With all the above, I probably have ~20 HP gains (Should it be more? Stock 135 HP). - Id like to test for this...
- All that, and, I probably have the least polluting (I passed easily) 22ret truck in Ca. (or at least in the top ten, lowest),
- Further improvements:
- I would like to find some one who is a 22ret expert, to "tune", (for best HP/TORK Vs., fuel economy, and smog),
- Find that, lite, intermittent, miss (Ca gas?)
- Find that, lite throttle, serge (Ca gas?),
- AFM air flow, set to ideal value,
- Clock (degree) the cam (Set for proper cam timing. The block has been decked, 2-3 times, the head 2-4 time. (There are reports that, + cam timing and richer AFM will result in senifagent HP/T gains??? I am somewhat lean, I think? - not me, my engine ;=)
- Get better gas mileage, 15-17 MPG, ick, (18-22, would be cool ;=)
- Change gearing from 4:11 to 4:56, to make up for the factory (Dealer) installed 31x10.50R15 (stock none SR trucks had 28x9.5R15's), for better 'off the line' (less effort starting in 1st gear). And use of 5th gear at 55-65 MPH (it's ok at 70-80, but that's not my target speed), and better gas mileage?)
- Traction adding device, Detroit soft locker, or Auburn Gear, limited slip (I don't want a street drivability problems, or to get a ticket for a squealing "Locked" tire because I'm making a U-turn, under light throttle ;=(
