This is my list, of what I want form a new cell phone. (And can't exactly find.) I'm ready to upgrade to a new phone. Because myn is developing problems (bad headset jack, and the clip for car kit is braking, again (I've gone thorough at least three, for this problem).
I like my Timeport P8767, and it is no longer available, through Verizon. Instead, they have only gimmicky camera phones, available. Also, I have several extra batteries, chargers, and three permanent installation car kits, for my P8767; To much trouble to change! I'll probably go purchases one (P8767 phone), on my own, a old "New in the box," Send my in to Motorola for repair ($75 flat fee), or contact an Ebay vender of used phones.
This list is in order of most important, and the "deal barkers" are in bold. I.e., If it doesn't have it , I'm not buying it!...
- Most importantly, has land line voice quality!!!
- Sill has analog cellular (AMPS) capable,
- Can be switched by user (Example; FCN-2, on most Motorola phones),
- The V60, my most likely new phone, the FCN-2, is not available???
- "Menu", select "Settings", select, "Other Setting", select, "Network, Select", "Analog Only", select "On".
- What the F, where they thinking???
- Even hear, in the Santa Cruz area, it's not a small town any more, I'd lose, at least 25%, of my cellular coverage, if I did not have Analog!
- Especially when I'm near the Ocean (the bay)?
- I will have 90% call failure rate, there. Move a block inland, back to 90% call success?
- I can visually see a cell site,
- I have, as much as, 4 or 5, of 5 (all) bars total (Approx.Rx sig = -60dbm--80dbm, and Eb/i0=100 or better)
- I regularly go in rural areas that, Analog is what is available. It's a dependable backup.
- Battery life:
- I expect at least 3.5 Hours of Digital talk time,
- I expect at least 150 Hours of digital standby,
- I expect at least 10 Hours of analog standby,
- Antenna's:
- Has real antenna, that is seen on the outside of the phone,
- Preferably, one that you can pull up (even if you cant see more bars, the antenna works better when its extended),
- Many new phones have low gain internal antenna, that work poorly,
- Has external antenna output on the bottom accessory plug,
- Usually for the car kit,
- Has a full installation car kit, including EXTERNAL ANTENNA!
- Has diversity reception between the external antenna and the internal antenna (Receive only)
- Has test mode screen, and is available on the net (Nerd mode; signal strength in dbm, cell site info, etc.),
- Security related:
- Phone lets users know when not in Digital, or other related security risks,
- Any 802.11, Blue tooth, or Ir., features, use encryption, and or other measures to protect user,
- Roam ringer, Unique ringer ideates phone is roaming as call come in,
- Strong security for users saved data (phone book, personal data, etc.)...
- Allow users to, opt out, of any location based service, including E911...
- Mufti (all) Mode:
- Allows me to select or exclude any technologies:
- AMPS, CDMA, 800, 1900 (900/1800) MHz,
- GSM,
- TDMA,
- 802.11
- Using second NAM, used on GSM, or TDMA, you could get service from competing carrier...
- Have phone find all available technologies, allow me to select (including this feature, on, off, when roaming, or not),
- Extras:
- A real GPS unit would be nice (Phones today can not directly provide your GPS location. Eventually, you will be able to purchase a location based, fee for, service. No cell service, no GPS!!!
- FRS transceiver,
- Create a new FRS/Cell phone technology on the 902-928 MHz band, as a independent, non cellular, user to user, FRS like, short range, Push to talk radio service, Free;, Other than the cost of the phones....
- Palm type computer would be nice (this is available now)...
