Are The American Legion & The VFW Unpatriotic?

My experience started with the Vietnam War. That being the bigshots of the American Legion and the VFW accepting anything and everything said and done by the President of the United States as handed down direct from the Almighty.

It didn't matter to American Legion and the VFW bigwigs in the 1970s, when soldiers were being sent to politically-driven senseless slaughter or denied financial and medical benefits because of the 'unproven' effects of Agent Orange..

'Nope, gotta soldier on, act on the orders of the Commander-In-Chief and brook no doubt, for such is traitorous.'

It didn't matter to the American Legion and the VFW elite when President Bush and his coop of chickenhawks were up for re-election in 2004 against a Vietnam veteran--someone who let another individual serve and possibly die or be maimed, who failed to even fulfill his stateside National Guard duty versus someone who could have easily avoided the military but chose to do what he thought was his patriotic duty.

'Nope, gotta go with the uber-warrior George W. Bush--he looks so good in a flight suit.'

It didn't matter to the top brass in the American Legion and the VFW that Vice President Chaney's spit-on-the-troops proclamation that 'I had priorities other than serving during the Vietnam War' is an insufferable slap in the face to all who did their time, the dead and the living.

'Nope, Dick's always been a military supporter, we can count on him sending the troops anywhere and everywhere.'

It didn't matter to the elite of the American Legion and the VFW that the Bush Administration and GOP-controlled Congress deliberately under-funded benefits for vets in the latest budget.

'Nope, President Bush has such a good snap of the arm when he returns a salute that this must be the fault of the liberal namby-pambys. They must have inserted their own figures into the legislativon when the Right Honorable Tom DeLay was leading Congress in the Pledge of Allegiance.'

What I haven't even mentioned is the lack of personal and vehicle armor provided by the military to our soldiers and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's subsequent lies on the matter.

Shame on you, you American Legion and VFW enablers. Your foremost obligation is to honor the troops by fighting for THEM. To do otherwise is a dereliction of duty. Forget gazing longingly and lovingly into the eyes of the abusers--speak
loud and clear to those bastards using our soldiers as political pawns. You cannot serve two masters.

*** Congrats to veteran Bill Moyer, in a widely distributed picture, expressing his opinion by wearing a 'Bullshit Protector' pair of earmuffs during President Bush's recent address to the VFW in Salt Lake City. Watch out Mr. Moyer, the slime campaign will have you in its target as soon as Cindy Sheehan is vanquished.
