Ben-Veniste versus DeGenova is a first round knockout

On "Hardball" last week, there was a segment speculating on the fate of Scooter Libby. As is par for the course, Chris Matthews had yet another weird pairing, Joseph DeGenova and Richard Ben-Veniste. It was quite the telling segment because Ben-Veniste couldn't  help but laugh at times -- the times when DeGenova was flailing away with GOP talking points supplied to him.

Speaking of DeGenova, we really try to resist criticizing any particular occupations -- other than lobbyist which is always fair game -- but lawyer DeGenova both looks like and comes across as the prototype of a sleazy used car salesman.

Here's the most striking point DeGenova offered regarding a presidential pardon, something so eminently laughable but absolutely telling about his particular values:
DIGENOVA: The president will then have to act at the end of those 60 days, because, if Scooter Libby spends one day in prison, the black mark on this president‘s tenure in office will be indelible.
We have to ask this: what percent of the United States population will be able to even recall the name Scooter Libby ten years from now let alone assign The Decider accompaniment with Richard Nixon and his ilk if no pardon is forthcoming?

In yet another buffoon pronouncement, DeGenova acts like every 'reasonable' book on American history covering this century will be going with Scooter Libby's imprisonment as the lead. Forget about the Iraq quagmire, the hundreds of thousands dead and maimed, the failures of the Bush Administration throughout the Middle East, et al -- no, it's Scooter and always will be Scooter, at least in the warped minds of people like Joseph DeGenova.

Here's Ben-Veniste answering the same pardon query:
BEN-VENISTE:  I think that is—that is entirely up to the president.

He has the right, in his discretion, to do it.

If he stood up and said, look, Scooter Libby, he was doing our bidding, that this whole attack on the Wilsons, outing Valerie Wilson, who was a covert operative of the CIA, a case officer of the CIA, which our government had invested millions of dollars in developing, casually outed by the administration, through Scooter Libby, if the president wants to step up to the plate and say, I‘m responsible, and I will be a man, and I will take that responsibility by acknowledging it, and issuing a pardon, then so be it.
You tell us which take is emblematic of patriotic values? You tell us who has this country as a foremost concern?

What we have here is one of the grand masters of hypocrisy and moral relativism hard at work here. His tag team partner in this speciality, Victoria Toensing, is equally adept at subverting America in favor of hyper partisanship. For them, it's pro-GOP always, in every way, regardless of the who or what that gets damaged as a result. DeGenova and Toensing are so utterly predictable it's actually a waste of time having them appear. Blame their television appearances on lazy bookers.
