Bill O'Reilly Pontificates On The Pontiff Count Bill O'Reilly as one of those people who talk so much and so often, wants so badly to be known as a 'man for all seasons,' apparently cares so little about what he actually says and then vehemently denies his verbalizations when inconvenient. He is at it YET AGAIN pontificating about Pope John Paul. Credit Media Matters For America for nailing O'Reilly in another contradiction. On the December 12, 2002 edition of Fox's The O'Reilly Factor, O'Reilly states: "Everybody but the pope, who's too senile to know..." Then on April 8 of this year on Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, he lashes out at a caller's suggestion that he called the Pope senile, issuing blame on anyone but himself. To read the entire article on the Media Matters For America web site, go here. Yes, look at the years: 2002 and 2005. Nobody can rightly expect O'Reilly to remember everything he says. But calling the Pope senile is a serious charge, what should be a very memorable one. Defiantly denying offering such an opinion and THEN blaming others, well, that's child-like. Bill, a little (unsolicited) advice: it's okay to say it when you don't know enough about a subject to adequately comment on it. People don't think less of someone who does that. It's even better to admit past verbal transgressions when faced with the evidence. People WILL think less of you if you continually weasel when the facts show otherwise. You should think long and hard about appearing as a guest on your own show. Just a question: how about making "The O'Reilly Factor' a complete no-spin zone? Or do your 'rules' only apply to others? Spin on. top |
