Bush mentally ill? Some couples stay in a bad relationship 'for the sake of the children' as if the kids personally witnessing long term malfunction and disintegration is of greater benefit. Now this may be a stretch, but George Bush's twining with Iraq is in the same realm. He has no idea what to do other than remaining there until 'victory and success' are obtained. Please cue the long ago Johnny Mathis' hit "The Twelfth of Never." Bush has stated that even if it's him, Laura, Barney, and Iraq the mistress, holed up in the basement of The White House, well, he's okay with that--while the youth of this country continue as forlorn Bush fodder, returning boxed and flagged or decimated. Is George Bush's inability to change course completely ego-driven? Is the need or requirement to 'save face' so ingrained in him that the deaths and dismemberments of others come in lower on the Bush needs hierarchy? Or does his needs hierarchy focus solely on this: All George Bush, all the time. Is this a variant of mental of mental illness, say sociopathy--a person whose behavior lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience? Or psychopathy--a mental disorder in which an individual manifests amoral and antisocial behavior, extreme egocentricity, failure to learn from experience, etc.? Or borderline personality--according to the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI), characterized by impulsivity and instability in self-image and personal relationships. The disorder is marked by mood swings with periods of intense depression, irritability, and anxiety lasting a few hours to a few days. Other symptoms are uncontrolled anger, impulsiveness in such activities as sex, spending money, or eating, suicidal tendencies, intense personal relationships with extreme black and white views, alternating between "all good" or "all bad." Take Bush at his December 7, 2006 press conference. The BBC's Nick Robinson asked: "Mr. President, the Iraq Study Group described the situation in Iraq as 'grave and deteriorating'. You said that the increase in attacks is 'unsettling'. That won't convince many people that you're [not] still in denial about how bad things are in Iraq, and question your sincerity about changing course."Bush waffled and weaseled in his response so Robinson followed up with: "Why did it take others to say it before you've been willing to acknowledge for the world?"Here is Bush's response--George Bush at his most transparent: "I also believe we're going to succeed. I believe we'll prevail. Not only do I know how important it is to prevail, I believe we will prevail. I understand how hard it is to prevail..."There is nobody in this country outside of Dick Chaney plus a few righty wingnuts with the Kool-Aid frothing from their mouths who believe the words Iraq and success will ever be spoken in the same sentence. It boils down to Bush either offering a lie or his being mentally ill. Then it was Bill Neely of ITV News with: "Mr. President, the Iraq Study Group said that leaders must be candid and forthright with people. So let me test that. Are you capable of admitting your failures in the past, and perhaps much more importantly, are you capable of changing course, perhaps in the next few weeks?"Bush's reply was: "I think you're probably going to have to pay attention to my speech coming up here when I get all the recommendations in, and you can answer that question, yourself. I do know that we have not succeeded as fast as we wanted to succeed. I do understand that progress is not as rapid as I had hoped. And therefore, it makes sense to analyze the situation and to devise a set of tactics and strategies to achieve the objective that I have stated."I repeat: there is nobody in this country outside of Dick Chaney plus a few righty wingnuts with the Kool-Aid frothing from their mouths who believe the words Iraq and success will ever be spoken in the same sentence. It boils down to Bush either offering a lie or his being mentally ill. Lastly, is there another mental health factor at play here--that being Bush's thinking/belief that God gave him the go-ahead to invade Iraq and, therefore, how could God ever lead him astray? Have we, as a country, ever faced whatever this is--whatever George Bush's affliction is--previously in the presidency? top |
