How Do You Talk To Someone Who Proudly Wears A Dunce Cap?

Well, my hyperventiliating has stopped. But I'm still at a loss so I am asking the mainstream media to help me out on this. Yes, the same mainstream media that in November, 2005, castigated so many blue staters for not talking to red staters, for being too close-minded and for exhibiting snobbery and contempt towards the beliefs of others.

Okay, you men and women of corporate-profits-above-all-else media, just how should I talk to the following individual?

In a Christopher Kirkpatrick-written article about President Bush's visit to Ohio in the June 10, 2005, edition of the Toledo Blade, Kirkpatrick concludes with this:
Toni Brandon, 33, said she hadn't read or heard any news about Mr. Noe or the Bureau of Workers' Compensation scandal. She and her eight-year-old son waited on a small hill near I-70 to try to catch a glimpse of the President as he headed toward the event.

"We love the President. He's a Christian and these people are evil,'' said Ms. Brandon, referring to the protesters. "I have plenty of military background in my family and all of us love the President. I wish we had a flag to wave."
My first thought was one of concern--that Mrs. Brandon should be rushed to the hospital for an emergency brain scan.

No, I am not being mean or snooty. Just what is the top story in Ohio at the present? It's coin-gate featuring a list of Republicans comprising those responsible for the disappearance of worker's compensation fund monies and those who received campaign contributions.

And as for the flag Mrs. Brandon wistfully wishes she possessed, she probably couldn't afford it. See the economy isn't doing too well right now in Ohio but not to matter: President Bush is a Christian and those who don't support him are wicked. Life for her boils down to that. She certainly exhibits no interest in talking to those who feel and believe differently than her.

I'm sorry but Mrs. Brandon is a person who speaks an incoherent language and appears to have chosen willful ignorance as her preferred state of mind. I'll talk to children who are still developing but a full-fledged adult who elects to be ignorant opts for irresponsibility and is a threat to our democratic form of government.

Best of all, to all you fingerpointing media types--you wouldn't want to be around or be talking to this person either other than as a professional duty. Admit it.
