Join up with BushCo and regret it the rest of your life One of the more jawdropping elements surrounding George Bush is the growing number of people who amazingly first decided to cast their respective lots with him and then either never saw any reason to disembark or seemingly decided they couldn't bail out. This group sacrificed themselves, their credibility but most importantly, their country. This is unlike former Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill who was fired, then published a book detailing his perceptions about the shortcomings of the Bush Administration and finally shrugged and said that he was old and rich and basically couldn't be touched. There are many notables who apparently thought they were climbing aboard the Good Ship Bush when they were actually hopping on to a leak-laden dinghy, one captained by a money losing oil man whose life to date had generally been one giant clusterfuck. Captain Bush, owner of an anti-Midas touch, is best and most appropriately described as possessing a lifetime resume of deliverables wavering between "SNAFU" (Situation Normal, All Fucked Up") and "FUBAR" (Fucked Up Beyond All Repair). John DiIulio, who first ran The White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, is among the most interesting. After charging that that all White House decisions were politically, not policy, driven and the bunch in charge were Mayberry Machiavellis, he caved and took the scurrilous route of saying he was misquoted. His obsequiousness in this matter is stomach-churning. Perplexingly, the list also contains many well-known and highly thought of names. Topping the list is Tony (yo Blair) Blair. What was he thinking, casting his lot with such a doofus of major proportions? Did Blair think that, in his superiority, he could somehow control Bush and his actions? Or was it a matter of Blair's wishing to stay connected to the United States regardless of anything? So now Tony Blair is departing as Prime Minister tarnished and shamed forever. Colin (Aye Aye Sir) Powell falls into the same category. Succumbing to the military mentality of 'the general following the Commander On Chief' wherever he leads, Powell put far greater trust in Bush than was ever earned or deserved. And now look at the price he is paying, now forever being connected to the issuance of erroneous and trumphed-up accusations because he didn't have the wherewithal to stand up and say 'no, this is wrong and I won't do it.' The beholden-to-Bush-above-all figure is Attorney General Alberto (Sancho Panza) Gonzales. Apparently so grateful for inclusion into Bush's life and inner circle, Gonzales was oh-so-willing to appear before Congress and the American public and, as Jon Stewart so point on stated, perform his pinhead act rather than tell the truth. Presently, Bush keeps Gonzales twisting in the wind and Gonzales continues his suck up performance art. Karl Rove protege Monica Goodling must also be included. A devout Christian, she turned her back on the most important of her religious tenets by placing greater allegiance in a mere mortal. And, rather than facing the legal consequnces of her wrongdoing, she is seeking immunity prior to testifying before Congress. Something is terribly askew in Goodling's morality and decision-making. The latest is George Tenet. Either unable or unwilling to honestly, genuinely and thoroughly represent his country first and foremost, he sold America out by both choosing muteness and in failing to protect his employees from political interference. This is abominable behavior, writ extra large, in matters of national security. One very simple action Tenet could have taken was ending Dick Cheney's and his henchmen's sojourns to Langley, Virginia, visits meant to impress upon the various CIA analysts of what national intelligence estimations were desired. Tenet had the choice of making Langley off-limits to Cheney or offering his resignation and he failed miserably. Tenet's acceptance of the Office of Special Plans, an alternative intelligence gathering and analysis operation, was simply preposterous and blatantly defines his leadership shortcomings. None of these people were willing to take a stand, drawing the proverbial line in the sand and stating there will be no crossing of it. America is so much worse for it, as is the world. top |
