More on the obscene insidiousness surrounding Karl Rove I'm gonna Rove you. Yes, George Bush's partner in grime and crime has become a verb. The cherubic one who uttered this--"We will fuck him. Do you hear me? We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!"--directed towards one who apparently failed to carry out Turdblossom's dictum.*** Yes, 'hardball' politics are often the rule rather than the exception in D.C. and elsewhere but KR's modus operandi goes way beyond smacking people hard. Having a listening device installed in the campaign office of his candidiate and blaming it on the opponent, smearing John McCain's wife and daughter, plus intimating that another opponent was a pedophile--all have come from the stop-at-nothing because winning-is-everything perverted mind of KR. But that isn't all one needs to know about this long-time cancer on the body politic. Because he is the top advisor in The White House--which is quite revealing regarding the personal values of George Bush--KR has been free to inflict even greater damage and harm, this time to the American public. This includes infecting as many agencies of the federal government with members of the Rove Corps so as to carry out a present and future political agenda. Here's John DiIulio, who was head the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives before he resigned: "There is no precedent in any modern White House for what is going on in this one: a complete lack of a policy apparatus. . .what you’ve got is everything—and I mean everything—being run by the political arm. It’s the reign of the Mayberry Machiavellis."*** What is even worse is that with the Democratic Congress and Bush locked in various power struggles, with neither able to run roughshod over the other, there can be no big political initiatives from the Bush camp without the Dems climbing aboard. This leaves Rove to focus on filling in positions throughout the government and the judiciary with acolytes, even more so than what he has done the past six years. And, of course, these cadre members aren't the least bit interested in serving the public or in making government actually perform. No, these followers are there to carry out instructions, the orders from KR that favor and benefit the Republican Party. That is exactly what we are seeing with the brouhaha over the firing of the U.S. attorneys. This didn't take place in a vacuum and certainly didn't go into effect without serious vetting by KR. Nothing like thois does. The installation of partisan hacks like Kenneth Tomlinson at PBS, who was forced out after wrongdoing involving calculating the political leanings of guests and shows in order to determine so-called balance. From the August 30, 2006 New York Times: ". . . (Tomlinson) had violated rules as he sought more conservative programs and that he had improperly intervened to help the staff of the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal win a $4.1 million contract, one of the corporation’s largest programming contracts, to finance a weekly public television program. . ." Of course, Tomlinson is now involved with Voice of America radio and yes,.he is a close friend of KR. Any article about KR would be incomplete without some discussion of FEMA and Hurricane Katrina. It's well documented how poorly Michael Brown performed during that catastrophe and afterwards despite White House attempts--"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job"--to spin it. Some background: longtime GOP operative Joe Allbaugh was appointed the head of FEMA in February 2001, this despite lacking previous experience in the field. He resigned in March 2003 and Brown, who was hired by Allbaugh as FEMA general counsel, then promoted to deputy director was appointed to the top job in April 2003, though again he was someone lacking previous experience in the field. All this took place after Bill Clinton's appointment to head FEMA, James Lee Witt, professionalized the agency and won accolades for FEMA's disaster relief services. But was let go upon George Bush assuming the presidency. How many people on the Gulf Coast died, were injured and experienced incredible suffering because of political patronage? And don't forget the White House pondering allowing Mississippi Republican Governor Haley Barbour to remain in charge of his state in Katrina's aftermath while putting Louisiana and New Orleans under federal jurisdiction. Here is Michael Brown with quite the telling quote: ". . . Unbeknownst to me, certain people in the White House were thinking, 'We had to federalize Louisiana because she's a white, female Democratic governor, and we have a chance to rub her nose in it,'" he said, without naming names. "'We can't do it to Haley (Barbour) because Haley's a white male Republican governor. And we can't do a thing to him. So we're just gonna federalize Louisiana. . ." We'll have more tomorrow. *** Go here for the the complete Ron Suskind article on Karl Rove, George Bush, et al. top |
