Some Of The Truth And Nothing But... Condi Rice, Alberto Gonzales. John Negroponte. Now John Bolton. Can anyone, will anyone tell the whole truth? Does anyone have the courage of their supposed convictions? Each of the above individuals (and no, it isn't strictly limited to Republicans, this ailment is spread across all political parties) support or take actions or make statements deemed controversial. But then when it comes time to actually explaining the support/action/statement, well, the backtracking and obtusification begins in haste. A prime example comes from John Bolton's testimony in his effort to become U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. From the April 12, 2005, American Progress Report DAILY GRILL: "I in no sense sought to have any discipline imposed on Mr. Westermann." - John Bolton, Senate Confirmation Hearing, 4/12/05Huh? Mr. Bolton, you did what you did. Stand up, explain why, what your actions were based on, live with it. Let others decide if that in any way positively or negatively effects your nomination. Don't waffle. Don't lie. You apparently don't regret your actions towards Christian (ah, life is so full of ironies!) Westermann so knock off the tip-toe act. I thought these were bold visionaries, so sure and proud of their step. But shine some light on them and they become Barney Fife of Mayberry. top |
