Is it a twisted world or what? Here I am finding myself quoting Nancy Reagan!
JUST SAY NO!on the question of confirming Alberto Gonzales as Grand Inquisitor Torquemada, er, Attorney General of the United States. He's just another in the long line of pipsqueaks who refuses to publicly acknowledge positions he takes in private. So much for being a stand-up guy, a guy who says what he means and means what he says. We've exceeded the quota on shadow puppets. As a salve to his hopeful defeat, I volunteer to treat him to a waffle of his choice, no, make that as many waffles as he can stomach (which apparently will be quite numerous) at the local IHOP.

Stand and Deliver Alberto Gonzales

If only we heard this from the mouth of Alberto Gonzales during his Attorney General confirmation hearing this week:

Yes, I was the president's counsel. Our association goes back many years, back to our days in Texas. It is one we are both proud of and find mutually satisfying.

For those of you mplying that my actions were simply carrying water for the President--well, I'm proud of such a characterization. If you knew how George W. Bush works, then you would know our relationship was just that--get things done that he wants. I support what he stands for.

Now, I'm not going to split hairs, pussyfoot or do a Bill Clinton on you. The President wanted to challenge previously held notions emanating from the Geneva Conventions because he felt we needed to in order to better protect our country and he believed we were right to take such actions. As for me, I believe what George Bush believes. That's my creed.

You may agree or disagree with that but protecting this country is our foremost priority and there is no dishonor in setting new rules in order to achieve our mission. It has worked since the tragedy of 9/11.

Remember our motto, our guiding principle, it doesn't matter what any other person or nation thinks, we are a world unto ourselves and we will act as such. We create reality.

If we only heard this from the mouths of any Senators during Alberto Gonzales' Attorney General confirmation hearing this week:

Sargeant-At-Arms--soften him up a bit. I direct you to strap down Mr. Gonzales and 'waterboard' him so we can determine if he is telling us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Ok, next, bring in Rumsfeld and Cheney, strip them along with Mr. Gonzales and force them to make a naked human pyramid. Oh, ain't that a pretty sight. Haven't been working out much Mr. Vice President, have you?
