Testing...testing...evangelical morality

Since the vast majority of those leading evangelical congregations annoint themselves as life-savers and life-affirmers, especially due to opposition to any form or use of abortion procedures, the question is begged just why has this pro-life mantle been so narrowly defined?

The answer?

Moral cowardice for egotistical, influential and monetary purposes.

Many of these so-called leaders have chosen to cherrypick their pro-life platform so as to not disturb 'growing" their flock numbers, to gain access to the halls of power and to keep the collection plate overflowing.

How else can it be explained why the these beacons of righteousness have neglected to push for a nationwide crusade banning tobacco and alcohol?

Say what?

Well, tobacco use is the leading cause of death in this country, killing 435,000 Americans annually. Alcohol accounts for another 85,000 deaths.

Yes, prohibition has disasterously been tried before but that should be no impediment to those waving the black-and-white banner of morality. Shouldn't opposing tobacco and alcohol usage, tobacco cultivation and alcohol preparation be a given as demon smoke and rum contribute to over half a million premature deaths as well as a multitude of other problems in society.

This seems to be an easy call, a slam dunk if you will (please no George Tenet jokes).

Well, where is Jerry Falwell? Same with Pat Robertson. Come on James Dobson. Let's make way for an expansion of your morality Holy Land.

Oh. you say it wouldn't be popular. That it's a losing cause. It's good Jesus didn't feel the same way.

Ah yes, moral relativism afflicting the devout. Can't 'afford' to have the assemblies wither. Personal popularity might go into a nosedive. The doors in D.C. and elsewhere wouldn't open quite so easily, if at all.

Is this another case fitting for 'get thee behind me Satan'?

If Jesus is truly your role model...
