The continuing shame of the Maher Arar case

Here's the second casualty of the Maher Arar case--Royal Canadian Mounted Police  head Giuliano Zaccardelli--the first being Arar himself.

Say, when will the legal bell toll for Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Robert Mueller, George Bush, Dick Chaney and the other anti-Constitutionalists regarding this particular situation? The answer is probably tied to a lawsuit Arar currently has under appeal.

Of course, if not telling the truth is grounds for resignation in Canada then adoption of such here would leave the top ranks of the Bush Administration barren.

Here's the words of a member of a Canadian commission investigating the Maher Arar case:

"...Evidence presented to the commission, said Paul J. J. Cavalluzzo, its lead counsel, showed that the F.B.I. continued to keep its Canadian counterparts in the dark even while an American jet was carrying Mr. Arar to Jordan. The panel found that American officials “believed quite correctly that, if informed, the Canadians would have serious concerns about the plan to remove Mr. Arar to Syria...”

Canada and the United States should be equally ashamed. At least some in Canada are.

And for those of you who continue to bleat that all means are necessary and acceptable to fight terrorism--I'll accept that you truly believe this when your innocent son, daughter, husband, wife is kidnapped and tortured for a year by intelligence services and you accept such as the price to be paid for your safety. Don't bother offering that your kin would never be victim of such because they are innocent and have nothing to do with terrorism--Arar has already experienced that lie.
