The Right Is Wrong On Cindy Sheehan My local newspaper this morning carried a headline that the Cindy Sheehan situation in Texas "bolsters left, angers right." Such is way too simplified (but, hey, it's a headline). It really should have read that the circumstances surrounding Sheehan's camp-out in Texas "saddens everyone." This mother lost her son. I have no idea how that loss feels. Neither does President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld or any individual in a national position of authority in this country. Just what have we come to in this country when a single individual cannot speak to absolute power? Is our President too important, too powerful, too busy not to talk with a mother whose son was killed due to his presidential directive? Absolutely not. Any President of the United States should be willing to meet with a parent whose child has been killed in war, period. Everyone, right, left and center, should be applauding what is going on right now in Crawford, Texas. This is democracy at its finest, nobility on display. This is what our nation should be exporting to the other countries as an example of what to emulate. Belarus had its white revolution, Georgia its rose, Ukraine orange and Kyrgyzstan pink. Let's call this the Sheehan revolution. May it succeed. top |
