The Taliban Are Back (and unfortunately they are us)

Have the numbers of the Taliban dwindled in Afghanistan because they have migrated to a certain area in North Carolina?

It sure looks so.

Check out Mullah Chan Chandler and his all-glory-to-God edict:

Democrats voted out of church because of their politics, members say
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (AP)

Some in Pastor Chan Chandler's flock wish he had a little less zeal for the GOP.

Members of the small East Waynesville Baptist Church say Chandler led an effort to kick out congregants who didn't support President Bush. Nine members were voted out at a Monday church meeting in this mountain town, about 120 miles west of Charlotte.

"He's the kind of pastor who says do it my way or get out," said Selma Morris, the former church treasurer. "He's real negative all the time."

Chandler didn't return a message left by The Associated Press at his home Friday, and several calls to the church went unanswered. He told WLOS-TV in Asheville that the actions were not politically motivated.

The station also reported that 40 others in the 400-member congregation resigned in protest after Monday's vote.

During the presidential election last year, Chandler told the congregation that anyone who planned to vote for Democratic Sen. John Kerry should either leave the church or repent, said former member Lorene Sutton.

Some church members left after Chandler made his ultimatum in October, Morris said.

For the rest of the story, go here.

From an article in today's Ashville Citizen-Times by Andre Rodriguez, comes this:

...Chan Chandler, pastor of East Waynesville Baptist, had been exhorting his congregation since October to support his political views or leave, said Selma Morris, a 30-year member of the church.

“He preached a sermon on abortion and homosexuality, then said if anyone there was planning on voting for John Kerry, they should leave,” she said. “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard something like that. Ministers are supposed to bring people in.”

Oh my gosh, yet again it's those liberals and secularists who are running roughshod over the faithful. Might it be time for Justice Sunday, Part Two?

I'm sure the Dobson/Falwell/Robertson brigade will be hustling to the microphones to speak out against Mr. Chandler's not-so-unique anymore selfish ignorance. President Bush probably focused on it in his weekly radio address to the country. I betcha Karl Rove is thinking of resigning to spend the rest of his mortal life healing the evergrowing rift between the radical Christians and the rest of this country.
