The Watergate Bandits Resurface Pat Buchanan? G. Gordon Liddy? Chuck Colson? Is this trio the modern version of the three blind mice? But in place of the farmer's wife chopping off tails, this triumvirate of rats has chosen self-imposed blinders. And has the mainstream media stooped to such lowly gutter-swiping and bottom-sweeping that nobody with any virtue intact could be found to comment on Mark Felt's role in Watergate? Was it too difficult for the media to track down former Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus? It's too late now but former Attorney General Elliott Richardson, now deceased, would probably have weighed in quite differently than the criminal crowd that appeared. A reminder: both Ruckelshaus and Richardson resigned rather than follow Richard Nixon's edict to fire Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox. These three wise guys, and others, were backers of the most vile and disgusting individual ever to be president of the United States and yet they are brought to the fore as if their pearls of 'wisdom' have some sort of gravitas. Instead, all should still be parading around in sackcloth and ashes. The slammer-twins, Liddy and Colson, should have thoughtfully worn striped shirts to better remind the public of their 'contributions' that resulted in jail time. Plus, as others have written, who could Felt have turned to? His superior, L. Patrick Gray? You betcha. John Erlichman or Bob Haldeman? Yeah, if he wanted to reside under cement in the north corner end zone of the Washington Redskins football stadium. Nixon himself? Right. There was no special prosecutor at this point and no Senate Watergate committee. Richard Nixon lied about Watergate and lied about Vietnam. Period. He put his own self interests far above this country's. There is no resurrecting this abomination. top |
