Tom Friedman On President Bush's Wasted Presidency Tom Friedman is usually provocative and informative, even if one doesn't always agree with his musings.Well, he out-did himself in his Sunday New York Times column, eviscerating President Bush for chasing flyspecks on the wall while real crises in this country go unaddressed. Friedman front and center states that the current U.S. energy policy (if there is one--my editorial) is not addressing this country's needs and maybe more importantly, is supporting terrorism and anti-democracy movements through out the world. Read his column and see if you can counter his arguments--here it is. This is yet another critical issue we are not debating in this country. But the denial of gay and lesbian civil unions and marriage, the rejection of health care services access to every citizen, the absolute need to drill for oil in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and to torture U.S. citizens and foreigners are so vitally and incredibly important for our national security and social well-being What a toss on the garbage heap of the so-called Bush 'mandate.' Instead of uniting Americans (and foreigners) with a message of common sacrifice to enhance the greater good, policies of exploiting of people and resources remains first and foremost. But what else does Karl Rove stand for? top |
