We Solve Another Impending National Emergency

Schools are falling apart. Millions have no health care. The budget deficit continues to spiral out of control, as does the trade deficit. There is no national energy plan. We continue with no credible proposal to deal with the projected Social Security deficit.

Yet the only people asked to sacrifice anything is our veterans.

But President Bush and the House Republicans, though, are still hard at work at abolishing the estate tax. You know, the one that effects 2% or so of the estates in this country. The ones exceeding $1.5 million for individuals, $3 million for couples.

The Democrats have even offered to raise the exemption levels to $3.5 million and $7 million respectively.

Not good enough. So, it is up to the U.S. Senate to right this wrong.

More ideology over coherent tax policy. More ideology over love of community and country. More immoral allegiance to lucre over and above anything else.

Where are the Jerry Falwells, the Pat Robertsons, the James Dobsons, the Ralph Reeds in all this? Too busy righting and dusting off the tables of the moneylenders that Jesus overturned?

Where are the Sean Hannitys, the Bill O'Reillys, the Britt Humes, the Rush Limbaughs? Too busy checking with their accountants and financial advisors on how to invest or expend this latest pending tax 'relief?'

Ah, wrap yourself in the flag and shout vast liberal media conspiracy.
