Wrong Is Wrong, Even On 'Air America' Fair is fair and wrong is wrong. The NY Post today contains a story about an Air America-aired creation displaying incredibly poor judgment: AIR AMERICA SHOOTS OFF AN APOLOGYRhodes would have done better by simply shouldering the entire responsibility and not passing the buck in saying this was an element of her show that she had no control over. Even if that is true (and it probably is) and even if whoever is responsible for airing the tasteless bit is disciplined (there should be some sort of penalty meted out), just take the heat (this she did), apologize (this she did) and leave it at that (this she didn't), allowing the passing of time to bury this event. Not to lessen the incomprehensible lack of judgment on display here but do consider that other events similar to this have blackened our national discourse. Tom DeLay's slightly-veiled threats to the judiciary were completely out of bounds as have been at least a few of the inanities blathered by Ann Coulter. Remember her gem about it being too bad that Tim McVeigh didn't do the New York Times building? End the bald displays of ultimate arrogance. Eliminate the stupidity because it's not funny, even as a money-making shtick. None of this is necessary, let alone appropriate. We all get angry but the well of social intercourse needs no additional poison. Cleverly lampoon. Display some wit. Put some intelligence behind the mouthings and the writings. Sparkling riposte or cheap shot (bad unintended pun)? Which side are you on? top |
