Make a Mug or Chalice About Yourself

This assignment is not simply to make a mug or chalice using slabs,but it is also an assignment to see if you can convey to the viewer something about yourself without using many words. When the mugs are displayed , the viewer should be able to pick out which one is yours because it has some sort of design or decoration which is unique to your personality or character or it has something which a person would associate with you.The outside of your mug needs to express how you are on the outside or how you think people see you as a person. The inside of the mug needs to express how you really are. You may put or attach things to the inside of the mug that represent how you really are or how you persieve yourself.

How to start

First

Brainstorm as to what your interests are such as certain sports,ways of dressing, hairstyles, favorite movies or books, music,places to hang out, car or truck you drive or anything else which is characteristically you.You also need to think what kind of person you are or how you persieve yourself and think of objects to represent you. .You will need to turn in a list of at least five things for the outside of the mug that interest you or represent you and five things for the inside of the mug that represent how you really are.This list should be turned in along with your design plans.

Second

Once you have decided on the characteristics of your mug design, start doing sketches and plans as to how you are going to make it. You may construct it in any manner that you have learned so far. Making your mug by wrapping a slab around a pipe is the typical way of making a mug from slabs, but you do not have to use this method to get your product. Also think of the design for the handle you will use because the mug for the handle could be one of the major parts of the piece to represent yourself. I will be glad to help you with any concerns you have regarding the construction of the mug.You will need to turn in three design ideas along with your list of ideas before you start your mug. Circle the design you plan to make.

Third

Once you have all your plans and have turned in your proposal ( worth 25 points) start making your mug.

You may use no more than two written words or numbers on the outside or inside to convey your interests.
You are not allowed to use any gang numbers ,symbols or graffiti.
You may not use anything relating to drugs or have any tasteless body parts.
