Make a flower vase or planter out of slabs

For this project you will be constructing a vase or planter for flowers using clay slabs and roofing felt ( tar paper) as a backing to help support your work until it dries. Using this method you can make large strait forms without being concerned about walls caving in . If your vase is large you will need to make it a bit thicker than the slabs you used for making mugs. Your vase must meet the following requirements and be well constructed.

How to start

1. You will need to come up with six three dimentional design ideas of different shapes and angles you could use to make your vase. You will be using the program Sketch up to do all your drawings.Look in ceramics magazines and on the internet for ideas . You can combine ideas from various examples, but do not simply copy a vase you see. Also think of different geometric shapes that you have learned about in geometry . You will need to turn in these design ideas before you start.

Your designs are worth up to 25 points

3. Once your design is how you want it you will enlarge it, make a pattern for all the pieces out of tar paper and construct your vase out of clay. I will need to see your three dimentional drawing and vase together to see how close they match, so do not discard your drawings.
