If truth be told this country was founded on the principles enunciated by the tenets of "secular humanism," in particular the separation of church and state. Over the last decade these principles have been under attack by the forces of reaction and fundamentalism. We in Santa Cruz have long resisted these attacks and live in what many consider to be a "safe haven." Nevertheless, even though the pendulum may be swinging back in the direction of rational thought in our national discourse, there is still much to be done, both nationally and locally, to promote non-theistic perspectives on a wide variety of issues. So let's come together to form an organization devoted to the principles of secular humanism here on our home turf. You are invited to attend the next monthly meeting of the Secular Humanists of Santa Cruz County.
