Having lived most of her life in Northern California, Jane has a deep appreciation for the natural world. This love of flora and fauna translated itself into her fine art. Her award winning "Looking Down" series, a suite of watercolors, has been shown across the United States and pieces from it are represented in public and private
collections.
As a teacher of community college students, she became attracted to
illustration for it's innovation and freshness. On a sabbatical she
attended California College of the Arts and San Jose State University
to pursue this interest. She began to combine her love of watercolor
with pen, ink and cut paper to create her current work.
"I love seeing intensely and drawing what I see. My
challenge is to enhance the imaginative qualities of the text in way
that intensifies both. I enjoy researching and finding images that
speak to me. The work is exciting and fulfilling."
Jane has written several picture books and is looking forward to
illustrating one for print. Her credits include: Cricket Magazine,
Current Health, Step by Step Graphics, Health Advocate, Modern
Curriculum Press, Monterey Peninsula College, Ready Readers, Knight Ridder Newspapers, Utne Reader and Weekly Reader. |
