About
Bowen/NST

What
will I experience during a treatment?
A
treatment primarily includes the gentle application of sequences
of short moves on the body, following a specific protocol. There
is also directed stretching and positioning of the limbs and torso.
Subtle cross-fibre moves and resting periods allow the body to completely
integrate neurological changes. There is no forceful manipulation.
Throughout
the session the recipient experiences periods of deep relaxation,
creating a "window of opportunity" for the body to comprehensively
reorganize itself via the natural activation of various neural reflexes.
A
session normally lasts 45-60 minutes.
Do
I need to undress?
Treatment
can be done either through loose thin clothing or directly on the
skin.
What
kind of reaction can I expect?
It
is common for individuals receiving this work to experience a wide
range of reactions such as shifting body aches, hot and cold sensations,
sweating and at times emotional releases. These are positive signs
that the individual is returning to a better state of well being.
NST
creates a powerful context for change to take place. The body doesn't
feel attacked, and relaxes its defenses so a deeper healing can
take place.
Who
will benefit?
NST
is safe and appropriate for every body. It has been used on highly
trained athletes, newborns, pregnant women, the elderly and the
infirmed. There are no contraindications. The technique is useful
for a wide range of conditions from acute pain to chronic conditions.
This is not to say that every condition will respond in the same
way. Advanced degenerative conditions often require a multifaceted
approach, of which the NST may form a significant part.
What
conditions does it work on?
Conditions
which frequently respond well to NST include:
- Back problems both lumbar and
thoracic
- Cranial, (T.M.J.)and tinnitis
problems
- Digestive and bowel problems
- Fatigue (acute and chronic)
- Headaches (migraines and sinus)
- Herniated disc
- Injuries from accidents
- Leg problems including hamstrings,
knee and ankles
- Menstrual and menopausal disorders
- Neck problems including whiplash
- Repetitive stress injury
- Respiratory problems including
asthma
- Shoulder, elbow and hand problems
- Sports injuries (acute or chronic)
- Stress conditions and emotional
depression
What
happens after a session?
Very
often your body will go through a process of reorganization for
a few days. It is best to take it easy during this time and avoid
physically strenuous activities. We also advise that you walk daily
and drink sufficient water. This helps to flush the lymphatic system
and assist the musculature to return quickly to stable balance.
How
soon can I expect results?
People
often experience relief of symptoms within a few sessions. Some
conditions can require more visits, but most, including back pain,
sciatica, carpal-tunnel and T.M.J., are corrected after a few sessions.
Since
NST trusts the body's native intelligence to use the treatment to
address its priorities, sometimes the presenting condition
is not the first one to be relieved. The body may have to first
bring into balance other underlying dysfunctions. When this is the
case, some people may initially experience their symptoms more acutely.
This is an indication that healing is taking place. After this phase
completes itself, clients can expect not only relief from their
original symptoms, but an overall deeper feeling of well-being.
