WS_FTP Pro setup

Follow these steps to configure WS_FTP Pro to point at your personal storage site on the UCSC Web server:

  1. Select the "New" button in the right column

  2. Make sure the "FTP Site" radio button is selected and enter a name for your site in the text box (for example: UCSC personal). Click the "Next" button to proceed to the next screen.

  3. Enter the Host Name (for example: learn.ucsc.edu) of your server. Click the "Next" button to proceed to the next screen.

  4. Enter your User ID (login) and Password. If this is your personal computer and you would like the program to remember your password, select the "Save Password" checkbox option. Click the "Finish" button to complete the setup and return to the main screen.

  5. Double-click your Site Name, or click on it once to highlight, then the "OK" button to connect via FTP to the server.

  1. Launch WS-FTP Pro and select "Quick Connect" from the menu selections at right.
  2. Enter your Site Name, User ID (login) and Password. Leave "Host Type" on Automatic detect.
  3. Select "OK" from the menu selections at right.

WS-FTP isn't the only FTP program out there. Others for Windows include AbsoluteFTP, CuteFTP and FTP Explorer. Tried and true FTP clients for the Mac OS are Fetch, Transmit and ">Interarchy.
