it

's true it's
all I've ever
really cared
about

to spend all
day on it
is all I ever
really wanted
from a day

to approach it
from every
direction to
try it in some
new way
and all the
other
ways

to keep coming
back to it
after rest
cigarettes
wine
to tease it

back into
the center
of things
to make it
sing

taking the
tantric way
around it
so that it
lasts
and lasts

until the
final explosion
is a blessed
small
death

in my youth
it was it it
it
over and over
again
but not now

now I make it
last
past all
reason
into realms of
the spirit

water pounds
on the cliff
rocks for
decades
to remove one
particle of
granite

neither of us
is granite
or the
sea

but unless
you mean it
do not start
with me
unless
you have

a day
a night
and no need
to do anything
tomorrow
but smile

it is
only a passing
thing
a photo that
cannot be
framed
the smile
is all
that lasts

it is not
everything
they say
they are so
wrong
in
that
