The Steve Abrams Trio is a dynamic, powerful and unique group, with some of the
finest jazz musicians in the Bay Area, playing styles from hard-bop, Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz to blues
and soulful ballads. The group features pianist/arranger Steve Abrams, drummer Jim Baum, and bassist
Peter Wilde. This group, and the musicians while in other groups, has played at many venues, including
the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, San Jose International Jazz Festival and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary
Music. Quite often, the group expands by adding horns.
Steve Abrams has been playing jazz and Afro-Cuban music in the Bay Area for 15
years. Besides leading the Steve Abrams Quintet, he is also the leader of Midnight Mambo, a powerful
8-piece Latin jazz ensemble, and played with Orquesta Gitano for many years. He spent 15 years as musical
director and accompanist for Mountain Community Theater and Little People's Repertory Theater. Steve
has a B.A. in Music from UCLA, and teaches piano and flute at his home in Ben Lomond.
Jim Baum has been playing nationally, internationally, and in the Bay Area for
over 25 years and has played with a wide variety of top jazz and blues artists, including Robben Ford,
Jimmy Witherspoon, Mose Allison, Joe Farrell, Eddie Harris, James Moody, Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Smith
Dobson and Stan Poplin. Jim brings a rhythmic and dynamic versatility to the trio.
Peter Wilde is one of the most sought-after bassists in the Santa Cruz area.
Peter is known among his peers for his intensely rhythmic and hard-driving style. He has played with many
groups, including Midnight Mambo, Broken English, Charanga Nueve and Orquesta Gitano.
