Variation on sepal themes

In the Santa Cruz Mountains, trillium sepals may be very unlike petals. Sometimes they are the same green as the leaves, often a paler green. However, the sepals may appear much like a second set of petals and can be as strongly colored.

Sepals can be roundish or very narrow. They also vary greatly in the way they are held. Particularly, when they are colorful, they may be displayed flat against the leaves.
