My Family

What is in my DNA? Where do I come from? I have so much family, so many people to love. I know I come from some of the oldest generations of people, -- the Hebrews. I know that I also come from farmers. From Iceland, from Europe and Russia, from so many parts of America, East and West. What is my genetic heritage? It gets more important as I grow into the man I will become ... I am four-years-old now, but I am growing up very fast! My family is very special. It is also very big, but my closest family is my Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Granparents, Great Grandparents and Godparents Click here to see my small family tree.

My Dad is great. He reads books to me and takes me for walks. He plays with me and watches TV with me. He also sometimes does art with me (he is a very great artist!). His name is Tony and he works at WorldSat International selling maps and globes to the whole world. His friend Todd made the first blow-up satellite world when I was only one year old.

My Dad made a the biggest satellite map in the world when he worked for World Game Institute. This map was shown in the American Museum of Natural History last year. I was very proud of him and I get to walk on the big strip of map that he still has. He is on the Board of Directors of the Natural History Museum in Santa Cruz now. I hope he can make a big map there so I can play on it!

My Mom's name is Bonnie. She is fun when she dances and sings make-up songs with me. She also bakes cookies and cakes with me -- especially my own recipe -- "Walnut Avenue Cake." She also plays on the computer with me and even helped me make this newsletter!

Actually my Mom spends a lot of time on the World Wide Web. It is where she does all of her work. She makes web sites for education. She even works with teams to build virtual worlds where you can walk around and meet people from all over the world. I like to be an avatar in her virtual worlds -- my favorite avatar is "Willy" cause he always falls down and gets back up.

My big Sister's name is Angelina. I am so happy that she and her boyfriend, James just moved back to Santa Cruz! They live in a cabin in Boulder Creek. Angelina and James are very happy here. Angelina works at SurfSoft, an internet company. James works at a pet shop in the fish department. He takes care of a lot of fish!

My big brother's name is Joel. He is very big but likes to play with me. Pillow fights, and wrestling... boy things. He goes to the University and studies computer engineering. I think he is very smart. He also used to run a lot and was in cross-country and track. He also works at Longs Drugs in the photo shop. He develops photos with the computer. It is very cool.

My Grandparents are very special. I love my Pa Don and Nana in Cincinnati. They always do fun things with me and send me special gifts. Pa Don and Nana came to visit us in the Spring and we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Nana works at the Art Museum and other places in Cincinnati.

My Pa Don works with computers and is a great artist too. We lived closer to Nana and Pa Don for a while but it was very cold there. I miss them a lot. I talk to them every week on the phone and someday I will go on a plane and stay with them for a week.

My other grandparents are Grandpa and Grandma D. We used to live far away from them but now we are closer. They have a funny dog I love -- Pepper. Pepper is a girl but she looks like a little old granddoggie. Grandpa D works with computers just like my Mom and he loves astronomy and has big telescopes. He used to have a shop called "The Odd Assortment" where he had a computer the size of a refrigerator a long time ago. Grandma D does lots of things with her church and she collects stamps and sings with the choir. She used to be an accountant but now she is retired and takes lots of classes at school -- even classes on computers.

I have some very great Great Grandparents. My Dad's Grandpa, Herbert is 96 years old! He is my Great Grandpa. He was a lawyer in New York for many years and is Jewish. My Great Grandmother, Edith died before I was born and my Grandma Emily (my mother's "Little Grandma") died too. They were both very special.

Great Grandpa Herbert has an older Sister who Dad calls Aunt Selma. She is 98 years old and doesn't like fruitcake. I got to visit her when we lived in Pennsylvania. Dad says Aunt Selma used to put Fleishmann's yeast on her face every day and still doesn't have a wrinkle.

My Great Grandma in Lancaster is as great as her name. She is my mother's grandma and her name is Imajean. My grandma, Barbara, died way a long time ago. Imajean is her mother. Great Grandma is very funny and likes to laugh. She has special toys in her closet for me to play with when I visit.

My God Parents are totally cool. They are Sarah and Chris and they live in New York. Chris is a musician -- he plays the bass. And Sarah works in landscape architecture and helps to design new places all over the city! My Godmother and Godfather met at my Mom and Dad's wedding rehearsal a day before they got married! Sarah was my Mom's Maid of Honor and Chris was my Father's Best Man. Now they are my closest family too.

I have lots of Aunts and Uncles. Aunt Dana and Uncle Ken in Florida, Uncles Jeff, Tom, Steven, Jon, Aaron and Kelly, Aunt Shari, Lori, Tracy, Ellen and Sandy, Great Uncle Paul and Colleen, Great Aunt Patti and Chuck, Great Aunt Clarann and Russ, and Great Aunt Barbara Jean and Robert.

If you think I have a lot of Aunts and Uncles, I have way more cousins!!! Cousins all over the country! I have Megan, Amy and Douglas in Florida, Geneva and Elsie in Utah, Tim, Leo and Aubree, Leslie, Melissa, Amy, Jimmy, Stacy and Sadie. You can see them all in my wall of cousins below.
