Synthetic Carpeting

Not only do modern synthetic pile wall to wall carpeting and their foam pads give off very toxic formaldehyde gas over the life of the carpet but they also collect heavy metals like lead and harbor dust mites, fleas, ticks, bacteria and fungus that live off the dead squamous skin cells which continually fall from our bodies, spilled food and occasional pet excrement. Living around, walking over and sometimes crawling on this toxic cocktail of synthetic and organic insults to our immune systems has condemned many people to a sneezing, itching, eye watering, allergic hell ,3.

Remedy: Remove all fixed carpets. If you must have carpets use natural fiber ones that you can wash occasionally like area rugs. Take off your shoes before entering the house.

Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF)

It has been demonstrated in vivo and vitro laboratory experiments that exposure of more than 11 minutes in excess of 1.5 milligauss of electromagnetic fields which cycle at 60 MHz will cause suppression of the human immune system, increase in the growth of cancer tumors, miscarriages and decreases in blood serum levels of enzymes and hormones 8.
Some homes and businesses have areas which greatly exceed these EMF values of strength and duration8,9.
Remedy: Use a gaussmeter to check the areas in the house where people will be habituating for long periods for possible excessive EMF. EMF in excess of 1.5 miligauss can be reduced by upgrading the house wiring, changing the location or orientation of an appliance or relocating people away from high EMF areas. I put my microwave oven on the back porch so that the people in the kitchen are not being exposed as the EMF field over 1.5 miligauss extends about three feet on many microwave ovens.

Hammers and Nails

You would think that driving a nail with a hammer is as simple as well, just hitting a nail on the head. Well‹yes and no. If the nail is hit slightly off center the nail can ricochet off the face of the hammer and hit you in the eye.

Remedy: Always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes and hearing protectors to insulate your eardrums from the bang of the hammer. Impact sound and  ambient noise over 36 decibels can cause perminent hearing loss.

High VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) Paints, Thinners And Other Chemicals

These type of chemicals have been found to cause serious adverse health effects including cancer.

Remedy: Whenever using these chemicals always wear latex gloves to avoid skin contact and if you use them in a confined area use a NIOSH charcoal respirator rated for organic compounds. The chemicals are not recommended for use inside the home.

Electrocution
 A considerable number of people are killed  and injured every year by electrical systems.

Remedy: Disconnect electrical power when working with and repairing household electrical systems. Always check a circuit with a voltmeter or curcuit tester to make sure that it is off before you work on it. It is also a good idea to remove rings, watches, braclets and other metal jewelry before working inside electrical boxes.
