Biographical Information
- 1928: Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- 1928-1943: Lived in Miami Florida until began travels
- 1944-1946: Returned from Ecuador and attended the University of Chicago
- 1947-1948: Walked alone over the eastern range of the Ecuadorian Andes down into Amazon Basin. Paddled a dugout canoe down the Napo River to Iquitos, Peru. In a larger dugout paddled to the mouth of the Amazon then sailed the canoe alone up the South Atlantic and across the Caribbean to Miami, Florida.

- 1948-1952: Several hundred speaking engagements across the United States recounting his adventures
- 1948-1951: Returned to University of Chicago. Received a B A degree in 1950
- 1950: Married Susan Anderson. Five children: Joseph, Mary, William, Samuel and Benjamin
- 1952: Accepted as a Journeyman Carpenter in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America
- 1952-1982: Lived in San Diego, California. Variously employed as a carpenter, a General Contractor, a City of San Diego Fireman, and a Research Associate (Experimental Physics) at General Atomic
