Meeting - Wednesday, March 16 Synopsis of the Most Recent Meeting (March 2) Public meetings of the SLVUSD School Board generally take place on the first and third Tuesday of every month, at 7 PM, in the multipurpose room of the Quail Hollow School building (NOTE NEW LOCATION). During July and August there is usually only one meeting per month. The meetings include various employees of the district and other members of the educational community, such as the Superintendent, Finance Manager, Head of Personnel, Director of Student Services, and representatives from union groups. Often, prior to the meetings there are workshops on such issues as budget status, use of bond money, reconstruction plans, and other topics of public interest. These workshops usually start at 6:30. To find out about them, access the agenda from the District Web site (see link below), or call the district office at 335-7488. If I know about them ahead of time (I usually try to find out), I will put a note about them on this page. I have found them to be very worthwhile. Expressing Your Opinions in School Board Meetings Community members are invited to address the board with their concerns. If you want to talk about something that is not on that meeting's agenda, the community input times are near the beginning and end of the meeting (The time at the end is only alloted if needed, that is if the first period runs over 20 minutes.) You will be asked to approach the microphone, and state your name and town of residence, which will go on the record. If your concern is about an item on the agenda, you should wait until that time in the meeting, when community input will be requested specific to that issue. When addressing the board, you will be requested to keep your comments under two minutes, so it's a good idea to have your main points firmly in mind before you speak. If you're reading something, time it before the meeting so you know how long it will take, and try to make it more concise if necessary. If you bring something to read from, you may be requested to leave a copy with a secretary for the record. Meeting Agendas and Minutes (PDF files) (read this if you have trouble opening them). Minutes are posted after they are approved, usually at the next regular meeting.
