School Closure Information

Due to declining enrollment and other budget pressures, in the fall of 2002, the decision was made by the School Board to close two of the four elementary schools in the San Lorenzo Valley District. A committee was formed of members of the school community from each school, plus outside community members, for a total of 17 people on the committee. The committee met for 4 months, in the end making recommendations to close Redwood Elementary School (the vote of the committee was 14-3) and Quail Hollow Elementary School (in a 17-0 vote). All the meetings were public, and much community input was listened to, both at these meetings, regular school board meetings, and two extra school board meetings devoted exclusively to this issue. In April 2003, the SLV school board voted to accept the committee's recommendations, although they elected not to have the south district children stay at Quail Hollow Elementary during the scheduled renovations at San Lorenzo Elementary.
